This is a rare copy of a book that is an often quoted source. Sir Bowring was an Englishman, born in Devonshire, who visited the Philippines in 1858, to develop British trade with the Philippines. His observations of Philippine life at the time was so very well rendered and thoughtful that his work continues to be read and treasured. Chapters include: City of Manila, Taal Lake in Batangas, A Manila Belle, A Filipino Girl in the Provinces, Fort of Zamboanga, etc. The book includes black and white period pictures and illustrations. It also includes graphs and the ancient Tagalog Script
